Italy Trip 2019
In the summer of 2019 me, my mom and my dad went to Italy. We went hiking, kayaking and saw some exciting new landmarks.
Hello Italy
We landed at Naples airport late in the evening and went to a B&B. When we arrived at the B&B it was midnight, but luckily the owner was a nice guy and got us a fresh pizza. After we ate we slept for the night. The next morning we caught a super fast train to Rome.
Rome
That afternoon we went to see the Colosseum. We waited in a line to go inside, and when we got inside we saw big cages where they would've put animals. We went up some stairs and when we reached the top we saw that they were renovating the place where the gladiators would have fought. On our way out we saw a souvenir shop where I bought a book about gladiators. I loved the book and
the illustrations were very realistic. Overall I thought the Colosseum was very cool and exciting place.
Vatican
The next day we took a taxi to Vatican. When we reached there, we saw a humungous square with beautiful fountains. At the end of the square, we saw St. Peters Basilica. It was a magnificent structure with a huge dome at the top. We walked into the church and went up 511 stairs to the top of the dome. When we got up to the top, we walked around a bit. The view was amazing. We also saw lots of paintings on the way to the top of the dome. When we came back down we saw 8 guards outside the Pope's residence.
After Vatican, we took the train back to Naples.
Maradona Temple
The next morning we went to the Maradona temple in Naples. Well it wasn't really a temple, it was more of a cafe with a small shrine with pictures of Maradona. My favourite picture was the one in which the hand of Maradona was touching God's hand. Before we left, we talked to some elderly people at the cafe who kindly told us about their memories of him at Napoli and they said they still viewed him as a hero. Then my dad and I got the Napoli team's jersey with Maradona's name on the back. After we purchased the jerseys, we walked around the city square. It had loads of shops, cafes and small souvenir shops.
Pompeii
For those of you who don't know what Pompeii is - it was a town on the foothills of Mount Vesuvius (volcano) which exploded in 79AD. Most of the people died from the lava but some people died from inhaling the smoke. When we reached the ruins, we had to wait in a line. While we were in the line we took a couple of pictures. After 10 mins we got our tickets and waited at an area for our tour guide. Our tour guide came and we started off by going over a bridge. After walking for 5mins we where at the Pompeii ruins. We saw loads of houses and fisherman huts. The guide told us that rich people ate fast food and poor people ate cooked food. We saw people who had turned into rock when the volcano exploded and we saw a villa and a temple where there were sculptures of gods. At the end we saw an Amphitheater where they would have held plays. The experience was really cool and I was surprised they were able to preserve the houses and people.
Path Of Gods
The next day we went for a hike called 'Path Of Gods'. It starts in Agerola and ends in Positano. When we started we brought some food in our bags since its a 9km hike which would take us about 3hr. At the start it was easy but then as we went up
higher at one stage we were 600m above sea level. We took a couple of breaks to eat some fruits, soda and sandwiches. I also saw one or two mini waterfalls. At one stage we saw a small coffee shop where we got ice-cream. At the end,
we had to go down 1800 stairs. I was really hungry so we walked to the beach where there was a restaurant. The food was excellent. Overall I felt the hike was pretty challenging but the scenery was amazing.
Amalfi
After we finished eating we explored the beach. Then we went to Amalfi. It had a street leading to the beach with some shops
where I bought orange and lemon sweets and my parents bought some Amalfi lemon liquor. Then we went to our B&B where we checked in. To get up to the B&B you had to go up 60 stairs. Anyway, after we checked in, we went to the beach till 9 P.M.The next day we went to the beach to do some sea kayaking. We waited for 30 mins at the beach before our instructor came. He also had an assistant but I forget his name. When our guide arrived, we walked towards the kayaks. There were probably 3 families and 4 couples. The instructor stared off by telling us how to use a paddle and what to do incase you fall out of your kayak. After that he explained the safety precautions and we set off on a 1 hour kayak ride to a private beach where we ate some fruit and a sandwich. After that me and my dad went snorkelling. We saw some coral and some colourful fish. It was a really fun experience. Post snorkelling our guide called all of us to kayak back to the beach. On our way back we went into a cave, it was super fun but a tiny bit scary. Finally when we reached the beach, it was 5pm. So we went back home for the day. On the 3rd day we went a lemon restaurant in Amalfi. The roof was full of lemon vines. I had some pasta and for desert I had 4 pieces of
plain fried pizza with Nutella. It was very tasty. At the end we took a picture of me holding a giant lemon the size of my head. After we had lunch we went to the beach for a swim. It was really fun swimming. I especially liked swimming when huge waves came up behind me. I played at the beach till sunset and the sunset looked beautiful. After we saw the sunset we came back home for the night. I felt that Amalfi was my favourite part of the trip because I loved swimming in the beach.
Ciao Italy
The next day we were going back to Naples so we packed our bags and drove back to Naples.
By the time we reached it was 7:00 in the evening, the guy who owned the B&B
was called Mario and gave me a Liverpool and Napoli scarf. It was class. I went to sleep cause I was very tired. The next day we went to Naples airport, we boarded the flight back to Ireland. Overall it was an extremely fun trip and I would highly rate it.
Sachin, you have taken us along with you. Good narration and your experience is to be cherished for ever.
